Here is a example: 5/8=0.625
So how you work this out is is you divide 5 by 8, before you start dividing put a decimal point after the 5 and add a few 0's after it, so you can you can use the 0's for remainders.
Now you are ready to start dividing but remember to keep your decimal point in line.
